On a recent trip to Timor-Leste, Fr Bruce Clark (Prior Provincial) visited the new Carmelite Mission at Guisarudo. He was accompanied by Fr Wayne Stanhope and Mr Joe Konynenburg (Business Manager).
It was an opportunity to meet the people of Guisarudo and to view the work on expanding the current chapel there. As well, the local community is building more accommodation for the Carmelites. Fr Manuel Almeida Da Costa and Br Agostinho Dos Santos are currently ministering in Guisarudo. On weekends they are supported by other Carmelite priests who come to celebrate mass and the sacraments. The mission has about 26,000 inhabitants with 16 chapels, including the shrine of Our Lady at Fatubesi.
During his homily at the Mass, Fr Bruce expressed the thanks of the Carmelites for the welcome and generous support that the people had given the Carmelites.
The local Timorese new service, RTTL (Rádio e Televisão de Timor-Leste), was on hand to record the welcome and the mass at Guisarudo.
