On Friday 2 December Bonifacio Braganca Lopes, Celestino Soares, Domingos Nautus Quefi, Elias Soares Sin, Fernando Gusmão, Isaias de Jesus Martins, and João Fernando Cabal were received into the Novitiate in Hera, Timor-Leste. Fr Bruce Clark (Prior & Novice Master) received the new novices together with Fr Paul Cahill (Prior Provincial).

Br Januario Pinto was ordained a deacon by Archbishop Denis Hart on Saturday 19 November at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Middle Park.
After some pastoral ministry as a deacon in his home parish of Luro (Timor-Leste) Januario will return to Australia to continue his studies towards a Masters degree in Theology. He hopes to be ordained a priest in Luro next year.
LED by Fr Ken Petersen and Brother Matthew Tonini, Carmelites of Australia and East Timor, a group of 19 participated in the Seventh Annual 45 km pilgrimage in the beautiful Yarra Valley. The pilgrimage took place over three days and was organized by The Carmelite Centre Melbourne.
The walk was along the rail trail from Lilydale to the Sancta Sophia Meditation Community in Warburton.
On 12 November 1991 more than 250 mainly young people were shot as they sought refuge in the Santa Cruz Cemetery, Dili. The pro-Independence demonstrators had begun a peaceful march from a local Church to the Cemetery. Pursued by Indonesian soldiers as they approach the Cemetery many sought refuge within its walls. An estimated 200 Indonesian soldiers opened fire on hundreds of unarmed civilians.

In this special mass we remember, give thanks and pray for those who are now in God’s care. We draw strength from each other as we gently continue the journey of entrusting our loved ones into God’s care.
A Mass of Thanksgiving and High Tea for Donors was held last Tuesday at St Joseph's, Port Melbourne to celebrate 15 years of Australian involvement in the Carmelite Mission in Timor-Leste.
Fr Paul Cahill (Prior Provincial) was principal celebrant at the mass which was concelebrated by Frs Pat Harney and Matthew McPhee. Our Carmelite students led the singing accompanied by Fr David Hofman on the organ. The event was attended by 55 supporters and their guests.
