Feast of the Annunciation

2026ANNWeb420
The Annunciation is not simply an event of the past. In the mystery of the Church’s prayer and liturgy, it is always present—God continues to draw near, to speak, and to invite.

In the quiet of Nazareth, Mary, Mother of Jesus receives the Word of God with humility and openness. She does not fully understand, yet she listens. She is troubled, yet she trusts. And in that moment of surrender, she becomes the dwelling place of God.

For Carmelites, this is the heart of our vocation:

to listen in silence, to receive the Word, and to allow Christ to take flesh within us.

Mary’s “yes” is not only hers—it becomes a path for each of us. God continues to call us in the ordinary moments of our lives, asking us to trust, to receive, and to respond.

Like Mary, we are invited to become bearers of Christ in our own time.

As the Carmelite martyr Titus Brandsma reminds us:

“The Lord also sends his angel to us… we too must accept God in our hearts, nourish him, and make him grow in us.”

May we learn to listen more deeply, to trust more fully, and to say with Mary:

“Let what you have said be done to me.”
