This week Carmelites from Australia and Timor-Leste gathered in Melbourne for our triennial Chapter meeting. We were joined by the Prior General, Fr Miċeál O'Neill, who travelled from Rome to be with us.

Next week 32 Carmelites from Australia and Timor-Leste will gather in Melbourne for their triennial Chapter meeting. They will be joined by the Prior General, Fr Miċeál O'Neill.
Today the church prays for all those who have died. We pray in faith and hope. As St Paul says, what proves that God loves us is that Christ died for us while we were still sinners, and by his death we have been made righteous in the eyes of God.
The Feast of All Saints has its origins in a 5th century feast of “All Martyrs”. In the 7th century, by which time the era of martyrdom had largely passed, it became “All Saints”.
The Carmelites of Australia and Timor-Leste remember the 25th of each month as “Orange Day”, a day to raise awareness and take action to eliminating violence against women and girls (VAWG) around the world. As a bright and optimistic colour, orange represents a future free from violence against women and girls.
It is all too easy to make assumptions about other people which turn out not to be accurate. In the Gospel today, the crowd assumes that Zacchaeus is wicked and sinful, a traitor to his people because he is a tax collector.
