In his homily, Archbishop Mark remarked that the word ‘deacon’ comes from the Greek, originally meaning ‘through the dust’. A deacon, he said, was a messenger, one who travels through the dust of the world to deliver a message of great importance. It is the message of God, the Good News, that Matthew is called to deliver.
