Br Agedo Bento made his Solemn Profession of Vows (life commitment) on the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, July 16, during Mass at the National Shrine.
Fr Paul Cahill (Prior Provincial) led the celebration together with 13 other Carmelites. About 140 people attended including Lay Carmelites, members of the East Timorese Community, fellow-religious and parishioners of Port Melbourne/Middle Park Parish. 3 hymns during the mass were sung by Tetum by the East Timor Students' Association.
Agedo comes from the village of Uma-Tolu, Laekita, in Viqueque district, Timor-Leste. His mother Marianna and father Bernardo are subsistence farmers and have 10 children in their family, five boys and five girls. Agedo is the middle child. He joined the Carmelites in 2007.
After completing his postulancy and Novitiate he studied at the seminary of St Peter and St Paul, Fatumeta, before coming to Australia to complete his studies in 2013. Since then he has been studying at the University of Divinity, Melbourne.
