2 New Carmelite Bishops

Fr Paul Horan of the Irish province will become Bishop of Mutare in Zimbabwe and Fr Francisco de Sales Alencar Batista will become Bishop of Cajazeiras in Brazil.

Fr Paul has been worked in Zimbabwe since 2001 and is presently the Prior of the Pre-Novitiate house in Nyazure, Rusape. The Irish Carmelites have been missionaries in Zimbabwe for the past 70 years.

Fr Francisco is presently Secretary General of the Carmelites. He was Prior Provincial of the Carmelites in Pernambuco from 2005-2011.

FR PAUL HORAN O.CARM.: NEW CARMELITE BISHOP

The Carmelite Order is delighted to announce today, 28 May 2016, that the Holy Father, Pope Francis has nominated bishop of the diocese of Mutare, in Zimbabwe, Fr Paul Horan O.Carm., of the Irish Province.

Fr Paul was born at Drangan in Ireland, on 17 October 1962. Following his profession in the Order on 1st September 1990, he was ordained priest on 7 June 1997. During these past years he has worked in Zimbabwe and is presently the Prior of the Pre-Novitiate house in Nyazure, Rusape in Zimbabwe.

To Fr Paul we offer our warmest congratulations on behalf of the whole Carmelite Family.

 

2016NCB2Web200FR FRANCISCO DE SALES ALENCAR BATISTA, O.CARM.: NEW CARMELITE BISHOP

The Carmelite Order is once again delighted to announce today, 8 June 2016, that the Holy Father, Pope Francis has nominated bishop of the diocese of Cajazeiras, in Brazil, the Secretary General of the Order, Fr Francisco de Sales Alencar Batista, O.Carm., of the Province of Pernambuco.

Fr Francisco de Sales was born at Araripina in Brazil, on 17 April 1968. Following his profession in the Order on 24th January 1988, he was ordained priest on 25 November 1995. Among his many responsibilities in the Order, from 2005 to 2011 he served as Prior Provincial, from 2012 to 2013 as Subprior of the “Centro Internazionale S. Alberto” (CISA) in Rome and from December 2013 until today as Secretary General of the Order.
