Filipino Carmelites elected new leaders

At the conclusion of their week-long Chapter the Carmelites in the Philippines today elected Fr Noel Roases as their new Prior Provincial. Elected to the new Provincial Council were Frs Irvin Mangmang, Melvin Lorono, Sheldon Tabile and Edwin Magbago. Br Sanny Gie Calacar (representing simply professed) and Ms Angela Ureta, a.O.Carm (representing lay associates) were elected to the extended Council.

Fr Desiderio García Martínez, prior general and president of the Chapter, and Fr Robert Thomas Puthussery, general councillor for Asia–Australia–Oceania also attended the Chapter.

In his address before the election, the Prior General reminded the Chapter that service, unity and humility were the foundations of authority, and that the provincial leadership should be the first to “put on the work apron” to serve their brothers and sisters.

We extend our prayers and congratulations to those elected to leadership for the next 3 years.
