Two Carmelites to be Ordained

Br Albino Dos Santos will be ordained priest and Br Marcolino Gomes ordained deacon on 12 November this year. The ceremony will take place in the National Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Middle Park at 5.00pm.

Since completing his Master of Theological Studies, Albino has been ministering as a deacon in the Carmelite Parish of Coorparoo (QLD). He will return to Coorparoo after his Ordination to continue his ministry there as a priest. Marcolino will complete his master’s degree at the University of Divinity, Melbourne, in June next year.

We warmly congratulate Albino and Marco on reaching these significant milestones in their vocational journey. Our thoughts and prayer accompany them as they prepare for their ordinations.

Carmelite Rule

A rule of life was given to the early Carmelites by St Albert Avogadro, Patriach of Jerusalem between the years 1206 - 1214. It was finally approved by Pope Innocent in 1247 and later underwent mitigations which were not in the original text.

The Carmelite Rule states that is basic for a Carmelite to "live a life of allegiance to Jesus Christ - how, pure in heart and stout in conscience, he must be unswerving in the service of his Master" [no.2].
