Fr Michael Brundell, OCarm. RIP

The Carmelites of Australia and Timor-Leste are mourning the loss of Fr Michael who passed peacefully into God’s loving arms on 2 October 2026.

Born David Michael in Melbourne (VIC) he was known as Michael throughout his life. He joined the Carmelites in 1974 and made his first profession of vows on 15 February 1975 and professed Solemn Vows on 1 October 1987. He was ordained priest on 3 February 1979.

Following ordination, Michael was sent to Rome where he gained a licentiate in Sacred Theology. The next few years saw Michael continue his studies as well as lecturing in England and Ireland. He returned to Australia to minister firstly in Coorparoo parish (QLD) and then Wentworthville (NSW) where he was also Chaplain to the Josephite Spirituality Centre at Baulkham Hills for a number of years.

Following a debilitating stroke Michael moved to Port Melbourne (VIC) where he spent his final years before moving into aged care.
