Remembering the Santa Cruz Massacre

SantaCruzMassacre2015On this day in 1991 more than 250 mainly young people were shot as they sought refuge in the Santa Cruz Cemetery, Dili. The pro-Independence demonstrators had begun a peaceful march from a local Church to the Cemetery. Pursued by Indonesian soldiers as they approach the Cemetery many sought refuge within its walls. An estimated 200 Indonesian soldiers opened fire on hundreds of unarmed civilians.

We remember and pray for the victims, their families and friends.

Remembrance Day 2015

RemembranceDay2015Today we remember all those Australian service men and women who gave their lives in the pursuit of freedom.

We remember those who mourn them and those who were left to battle on alone.

We remember those who returned home scared in body, mind or spirit and those who loved and supported them.

We remember courage, dedication, sacrifice, mateship and service.

We pray that the world may never again see the massive violence and loss of life experienced in world war.

Our Lady of Mt Carmel, Middle Park Saint Joseph, Port Melbourne REMEMBRANCE DAY CELEBRATION11NOVEMBERRememberingCel:                Today  is  the  feast  of  Saint  Martin  of  Tours  and  Remembrance  Day.  Saint Martin was himself a member of the Roman Army around the year 400 before becoming  a  monk.  He  was  elected  Bishop  of  Tours  and  renowned  for  his efforts in spreading the Gospel in rural areas. Today on this Remembrance Day we recall the signing of the armistice which officially brought the hostilities of the First World War to conclusion. Today we remember all those service men and women who gave their lives in the pursuit of freedom. We  remember  especially  over  one  hundred  thousand  Australian  service  men and women killed in all wars.                       We  remember  their  families  and  friends  -  those  who  were  left  to  battle  on alone.                       We  remember,  too,  those  who  returned  home  scared in  body,  mind  or  spirit and those who loved and supported them.                       We remember courage, dedication, sacrifice, mateship and service.
