World Day of Peace

New Year’s Day 2018 will be the 51st World Day of Peace. Pope Francis invites Catholics to embrace those who endure perilous journeys and hardships in order to find peace.  He urges people to turn with a “contemplative gaze” towards migrants and refugees, opening our hearts to the “gaze of faith which sees God dwelling in their houses, in their streets and squares”. pdf Read Pope Francis'message. 2017Christmas2Web200The Carmelites of Australia and Timor-Leste wish you a very happy Christmas and thank you for your friendship and support throughout the year.

We will remember you and your families in our Midnight Mass at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Middle Park.

At Christmas we reflect on the mystery of 'God with us' in the person of Jesus, born in one moment of time so that he could be born in every moment of time in us.

4th Sunday of Advent

2017A4Web200The great Christmas feast is almost here. As always in Advent, what is promised in the first reading is brought to fulfilment in the Gospel reading. We began Advent with the cry, ‘Come, Lord Jesus’. We will end it with the joyful shout, ‘God is with us!’

In the first reading King David wants to build a house (temple) for God, but God says that, instead, God will build David and his descendants into a great house. God is not about building temples to himself and it’s not a dwelling-place made of wood that God wants.

3rd Sunday of Advent

2017A3Web200Today is Gaudete Sunday. The name comes from the first word of the Entrance Antiphon in Latin which means, ‘Rejoice’: Rejoice in the Lord always, again I say, rejoice! Indeed, the Lord is near.

That is what we are rejoicing in: God’s nearness to us. We recognise that nearness in the presence of Jesus, born so long ago, and his continuing presence through the Holy Spirit in our lives now. We rejoice that God has always been with us, whether we realised it or not. God has never left us.
